Frequently asked questions
I love two styles of tattooing:
Illustrative fineline black work; where most of my shading is finely stippled—think vintage drawings or old newspapers.
Etching; this style consists almost exclusively of linework and evokes the feel of old etching or engraving printmaking. There is little to no shading, allowing the design to appear two-dimensional on the skin.
You can enquire through the booking form you can find at the top of the home page. This will ask you all the important information I need to book you in. I will be in touch via email to finalise your booking.
Alternatively you can directly send an email to hexelilithtattoos@gmail.com
To prepare for your tattoo, ensure you are well-rested, hydrated, and have eaten a meal. Avoid alcohol and excessive sun exposure before your appointment.
Moisturising your skin daily, starting two weeks before your appointment can be helpful to prepare your skin, bonus point if you exfoliate the area a couple of days pre appointment.
Make sure to wear comfortable clothes that allow easy access to the tattooed area.
You are welcome to bring headphones, a book, snacks or anything else that can help distracting you, especially if it’s a big appointment.
Tattoo appointments can evoke a little nervousness, especially if it’s your first or if you haven’t been tattooed by me or visited the studio before - and that’s okay! Here is a rundown of how your appointment will generally go:
In addition to creating the best tattoo for you, my primary focus is to ensure you feel comfortable and provide a nice experience. If there is anything I can do or should know about, please let me know in advance.
Upon your arrival at the studio, I will present the design, and we can discuss any potential changes, as well as the size and placement we are planning. It’s important to me that you feel free to express your thoughts about the design; it doesn’t benefit either of us if you feel shy about sharing your opinions.
Next, we will proceed to place your stencil. I like to take my time with this step, as proper placement is crucial to a good tattoo, and I care deeply about how it flows with your body. Please don’t hesitate to ask for adjustments; tattoos are permanent, and we want to ensure you are 100% happy!
Once we have finalized the stencil and allowed it to dry for about 10-15 minutes, we will begin your tattoo. I will regularly check in with you to ensure you’re comfortable and to see if you need any breaks. It’s perfectly fine to take breaks to stretch or have a snack—feel free to ask at any time!
I will likely be wearing headphones during the tattoo process to minimize overstimulation and to concentrate fully on creating the best artwork for you. This is not meant to be rude or to indicate that I don’t want to talk; in fact, I might get too chatty and excited about getting to know you, which could prolong the process. However, if you feel like chatting, that’s absolutely fine—you can talk to me at any time! 😊
When the tattoo is complete, we will allow a few minutes for any redness to subside before taking some nice photos of your piece. I try to remember to send you a photo afterward, but please do remind me if I forget.
Following the photos we will wrap up your tattoo and I will guide you through the aftercare instructions, which you can also find here on my website.
Lastly we will process the payment - cash is generally preferred, though bank transfer is also an option.
After your tattoo, please be gentle with yourself, especially if it was a lengthy session. Get home safely, take a shower, eat something nourishing, and allow your body to rest.
I typically do not send out designs prior to the appointment, as I often finalize them the day before, depending on my workload. For larger projects, I do make an effort to send the design in advance to ensure that you are satisfied with it.
Clearly describing your desired tattoo during the booking process is essential to ensure that I create exactly what you envision.
While minor adjustments can be made on the day of your appointment, please note that a complete redraw will require rebooking and may result in the loss of your booking fee. Therefore, it is important to be as clear as possible in your tattoo request.
A non-refundable booking fee of $100 is required to secure your appointment. This fee covers the design and ensures that your chosen date and time are reserved for you.
The booking fee will be deducted from the total cost of your tattoo.
Please provide a minimum of 72 hours' notice if you need to reschedule to avoid losing your booking fee. A maximum of two reschedules are included in your booking fee.
A grace period of 15 minutes is given for late arrivals. However, arriving later than this may result in the loss of your booking fee or an additional charge to your tattoo cost for that time.
My current hourly rate is $180, and my day rate is capped at $1200, which applies to any tattooing sessions exceeding 6 hours.
My minimum charge is $180.
Flash designs are priced per piece, as they are generally pieces I would like to tattoo for my portfolio. Extensive changes in sizing may however increase the pricing.
Touch ups are absolutely fine, in fact I strongly believe in being able to add to a tattoo, though not to take away. I will also encourage a touch up if your skin appears stressed and I don’t deem it safe to continue working on a particular spot.
Please don’t hesitate contacting me for a touch up, you won’t offend or upset me.
Touch ups are free of charge if you notify me within 3 months of your appointment, otherwise a charge applies depending on the extent of the additional work, with a minimum of $180.
Cover ups and reworks depend on the existing tattoo.
Generally a cover up needs to be a fair bit larger than the existing piece and successfully hiding your old tattoo can be challenging in some cases. If your existing tattoo is quite dark or large, I may recommend laser removal to open up our options.
If I feel like I would not be able to provide the perfect solution, I may refer you to another artist who may be more suited.
Please come alone to your appointment to avoid crowding or excessive noise in the studio, with the exception of support people for disability or mental health needs.
Please let me know if this is the case for you, so I can be aware 😊
You can find gift vouchers in my shop and can choose to either pick them up from the studio or have them shipped out.
